Khao tom

Khao Tom Mad

One of favourites is this glutinous rice dessert that consists of a banana and black eye peas. In Thai it is called “khao tom mad” or often “khao tom pad”. It is covered in banana leaves and connected together with thin strips of bamboo.

Khao Tom Mad is a Thai street food made of sweet sticky rice filled with banana, black beans, coconut milk and covered in banana leaf parcels. It’s velvety, sweet and scrumptious. Generally, Thai people typically make Khao Tom Mad during Tuk Bath Tae Wo and Khao Phansa celebration to give to relatives and monks. This marks the start of the three-month monsoon season; a time that the monks pull back to abbeys and focus on Buddhist mentors.
