Tom Yum is popular in Thailand but in Thai restaurants worldwide and is the most famous of Thai sauces. It is a soup flavored with lemon grass, fresh root and kaffir lime leaf. This herbal combination is well-known for its medicinal properties. Tom Yum Goong is the most famous variety of Tom Yum and makes use of shrimp (in Thai: goong or kung) as the main ingredient of the dish.
